Nominations revealed for the inaugural P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award: public voting kicks off today
As headline sponsor to the BAFTA Television Awards, P&O Cruises has today announced the six nominees for the Memorable Moment Award. Voting is now open for the only award decided on by the public.
The P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award honours the impact of television in the UK and its power to entertain, inform and bring the nation together – looking back at key moments from 2022 that inspired and moved audiences at home.
Voting will close at midday on May 2, 2023 and the winner will be announced at the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on May 14, 2023 on BBC One and iPlayer from 7pm.
The six nominees are:
- Derry Girls, Channel 4 – The Finale, the people of Northern Ireland vote overwhelmingly for peace
- Heartstopper, Netflix – Nick and Charlie’s First Kiss
- Platinum Jubilee: Party at the Palace, BBC One – Paddington Meets The Queen
- Stranger Things, Netflix - Lucas, Dustin, and Steve rescue Max from the demonic Vecna by playing her favourite song - Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill
- The Real Mo Farah, BBC One – Sir Mo Farah revealing he was illegally trafficked to the UK
- The Traitors, BBC One – The Final Roundtable
Members of the public can vote for their P&O Cruises Memorable Moment online via bafta.org/moment. Voters will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of 99 pairs of ceremony only tickets to the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises. One lucky winner will have the opportunity to win a pair of ceremony only tickets and a seven-night cruise holiday in the Norwegian fjords on P&O Cruises ship Iona in a balcony cabin for two.
The nominees were chosen by an independent jury of national media experts. BAFTA’s Television Committee Chair and Deputy Chair of BAFTA’s Board of Trustees, Sara Putt oversaw the jury.
P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “2022 was a wonderful year for TV with so many moments that brought the nation together. It was a hard task for the jurors to choose just six nominees, but we hope that the final shortlist reflects some of the most entertaining and memorable TV moments of the year.”

Channel 4, Derry Girls – The Finale, the people of Northern Ireland vote overwhelmingly for peace.
Moment snapshot - The finale of Derry Girls moves between characters we have grown to love casting their vote in the Good Friday agreement and archival news footage, including John Hume and fellow Derry citizens at the euphoric moment it was announced that 71.1 per cent of the Northern Ireland population voted yes for the Agreement.
Moment description - We join the gang as their coming of age coincides with the Good Friday Agreement referendum. Until this point in the show, the Troubles served as a backdrop to their everyday lives but here we see our beloved characters placing a vote for peace and stepping out of the polling station into an unknown future. These final scenes are intercut with archival footage of political figures such as SDLP leader and peacemaker John Hume alongside fellow Derry citizens at the euphoric moment it was announced that a resounding 71.1 per cent of people in Northern Ireland voted yes for the Agreement.
Netflix, Heartstopper – Nick and Charlie’s First Kiss
Moment snapshot - Teens Charlie and Nick discover their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love. Sparks fly at a birthday party where the boys grow closer, resulting in their first kiss.

BBC One, Platinum Jubilee: Party at the Palace– Paddington Meets The Queen
Moment snapshot - Inside Buckingham Palace, Her Majesty is joined by Paddington Bear for a spot of afternoon tea. After drinking all of the tea, Paddington and The Queen both reveal hidden marmalade sandwiches. As the footman announces that the Jubilee concert is about to begin, Paddington thanks The Queen “for everything”.
Moment description - Carrying a tray of afternoon tea through Buckingham Palace, the footman (Simon Farnaby) places it onto the table of Her Majesty and her guest Paddington Bear (Ben Whishaw) who wishes her a happy Jubilee. After drinking all of the tea, Paddington offers Her Majesty a marmalade sandwich from under his hat to which The Queen reveals her own hidden in her handbag. As the footman announces that the Jubilee concert is about to begin, Paddington thanks The Queen “for everything”. Outside, as the band begin drumming Queen’s We Will Rock You, Her Majesty and Paddington tap along on their teacups.
Netflix, Stranger Things - The gang save Max from demon Vecna by playing a cassette of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill
Moment snapshot - In a climactic moment, Lucas, Dustin, and Steve rush to save Max from the clutches of the demonic Vecna. Thanks to Nancy and Robin's discovery that music could be the key to saving her, they play her favourite song: Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill". The haunting melody draws Max out of Vecna's mind and back to reality and to her friends.
Moment description - Max is struggling with the guilt she feels following the death of her step-brother Billy and Kate Bush's "Running Up the Hill" has been a source of solace. When she falls victim to the demonic Vecna, Lucas, Dustin, and Steve are forced to think fast and find a way to save her. Thanks to Nancy and Robin's discovery that music could be the key, the boys grab her Walkman and play her favourite song. The haunting melody and love for her friends push Max to save herself and escape in a triumphant moment that speaks to the power of music and friendship.
BBC One, The Real Mo Farah – Sir Mo Farah revealing he was illegally trafficked to the UK

He openly shares his story whatever the risk, about his journey from Somaliland, and the subsequent years that led him to become the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic Games history.
BBC One, The Traitors – The Final Roundtable
Moment snapshot - Claudia Winkleman introduces the most shocking round table of the series, as the final five decide who to banish from the game. Knowing that the others were turning on him, Kieran leaves a ‘parting gift’ for The Faithful by dramatically voting for fellow Traitor, Wilfred.

The remaining votes are revealed – as predicted, all targeting Kieran. He scoffs when Wilfred reveals he wrote his name down. Kieran reveals he knew Wilfred wouldn’t share the prize – just like he wouldn’t with previous Traitors Amanda or Alyssa.
