Fetten Named Senior Vice President - Corporate Ship Refits at Carnival Corporation & PLC

MIAMI (May 26, 2009) – Peter Fetten, a 30-year maritime industry veteran, has been named senior vice president – corporate ship refits at Miami-based Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest cruise vacation group.

In this newly created position, Fetten will assist in planning and executing ship modification projects for Carnival Corporation & plc’s various cruise brands. 

Working in tandem with Carnival’s operating companies and the company’s corporate shipbuilding department, as well as shipyards, marine architects, vendors, regulatory agencies, and classification societies, Fetten’s role will be to ensure each project is completed on time and in a cost-effective manner.  He will join the company July 1 and will report to Micky Arison, Carnival Corporation & plc chairman and CEO and Howard Frank, the company’s vice chairman and chief operating officer.

“Our brands have undertaken extensive renovation projects designed to upgrade their existing on-board facilities, providing guests with vacation experiences that exceed their expectations while enhancing our competitive position in the global cruise industry,” said Frank.  “And Peter – with his diverse background that includes extensive experience in ship management, design and construction – is an excellent choice to oversee this important part of our operations,” he added.

Prior to joining Carnival, Fetten served for eight years as vice president – newbuilding and fleet design at Royal Caribbean International and also operated his own consulting firm which oversaw renovation projects for a wide range of cruise ships.  He also spent 12 years at Hamburg-based Blohm & Voss Shipyard, holding a number of executive positions, as well as four years at Barthels & Luders, a Hamburg-based harbor repair company.

A past member of the board of directors of Grand Bahamas Shipyard, Fetten holds degrees in naval architecture and welding engineering from the University of Hamburg.
