AIDA becomes the new partner of the European Maritime Simulator Network
Germany's leading cruise
line supports the EU research project "Mona Lisa 2.0"
CSMART
Rostock, AIDA Cruises's maritime simulation center, is the new partner of the
European Maritime Simulator Network (EMSN). The aim of this collaboration is to
study the onshore-supported control of maritime transport, analogous to the
international monitoring of air traffic in the aviation industry. The members
from a total of 10 countries include renowned research institutes such as
Fraunhofer CML.
“Within
the network, maritime simulators from the various partner countries can be
connected up – this is globally unique so far,” states Burkhard Müller,
Director of CSMART Rostock. “During regular training sessions, we will in
future simulate scenarios in which we can test onshore-supported monitoring and
controlling of maritime transport. During a second phase, we will move on to
real-world tests on board ships,” Burkhard Müller explains further. The European
Maritime Simulator Network is part of the Mona Lisa 2.0 research and
development project. In this context, technologies and processes are being
investigated and developed to further improve the safety, efficiency, and
environmental friendliness of the shipping industry.
About
CSMART Rostock:
In 2012,
AIDA Cruises opened the first center for maritime simulator training in Germany
with its CSMART Rostock center at the AIDA Academy. This simulator training is
specifically geared toward the quality requirements in training and continuing
education and thus the safety of the cruise industry. The training center's
so-called full mission bridge simulator is a replicated bridge of AIDAblu.
Various maneuvers can be simulated 1:1 on the bridge's 220 degree panoramic
screens. The comprehensive safety concept also includes an engine room
simulator based on the Siemens control system on board the AIDA ships, which
can be operated independently or linked up to the bridge as required.
